Mental Health and Well-Being
At Hornsea Community Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.
At our school we:
- help children to understand their emotions and feelings better
- help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
- help children socially to form and maintain relationships
- promote self esteem and ensure children know that they count
- encourage children to be confident and ‘dare to be different’
- help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks
We offer different levels of support:
Universal Support- To meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum.
Additional support- For those who may have short term needs and those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as loss, family break up bereavement and other unexpected circumstances.
Targeted support- For pupils who need more differentiated support and resources or specific targeted interventions such as one to one ELSA session wellbeing groups or individualised well being programmes of work.
Mental Health Ambassadors
At Hornsea Community Primary School we take the mental health of our pupils and the whole school community very seriously. In school we have introduced Mental Health Ambassadors
Our Aims: For the Mental Health Ambassadors to help develop a mentally healthier school environment.
Training: Selected pupils have had some training on :
· The Mental Health Ambassador Programme
· Understanding Mental Health
· Understanding ways to help ourselves
Impact: Children at Hornsea Community Primary School will be more aware of mental health and ways in which they can help themselves and others to promote positive mental health.
MHAs have suggested ways that they would like to promote mental health across the school:
Helping to think about how we as a school promote good mental health
Assemblies that look at mental health
Staff and children school events, such as helping on the Lets Learn Wellbeing morning
The pupils who became a Mental Health Ambassador wear blue t-shirts in school so they can be identified by other children.
Watch out for more information as we really get the word out about Mental Health.
